Session Description: In value based payment, health centers need to shift the focus from visit volume to quality of care and health outcomes. The board plays a critical role in shaping strategy and oversight of quality and financial sustainability. How does the board monitor the effectiveness of their strategies in improving quality? In value based payment models, often multiple payers require reporting on different quality measures. Understanding how each payer defines value and which quality metrics matter most can be overwhelming. This session will start with a discussion about the role of quality metrics in value based payment. Then, participants will hear what some health centers have done to ensure that they can understand how they are doing on quality metrics related to value based payment, and shape Quality Improvement strategies to ensure high quality care and financial sustainability. The session will also include an opportunity for peer sharing and discussion.
Learning Objectives:
Define value based care and payment
Discuss the importance of quality metrics to value based payment
Describe at least one strategy boards could apply to both oversee quality and finances in value based payment models
